Hammond Square Mall
(ed note - not everyone sees the fun and value in saving Mall memories - but we don't take ourselves too serious..... :)
Last fall, the city of Hammond, Louisiana announced the renovation of the Hammond Square Mall, a HISTORICAL landmark that has been in our town for decades. This "renovation" is more than just a new paint job. It would involve demolishing the current structure, ridding it of its squareness, which would result in a name change for the mall.
When the Alamo got a little rusty did the good people of San Antonio bulldoze it with a nicer, much cleaner, more entertaining Alamo that featured more stores and more than one elevator? I think not.
Many residents of Hammond are unaware of the number of records their mall has set:
-The first mall in America to have no book store.
-The only mall in America to have a Uniquely Wood on more than one floor.
-The only shopping center in the universe where good Will and the local food shelter are its number one competitors.

6 uzma naeeem LA US as a former employee at this fine institution, i would have to urge all of the citizens of hammond to utilize on of the public libraries four computers with dial up and sign this petition! I remember the good old days, as a chick fil a worker, some days the security personnel would come by with their malicious flashlights and remind us the mall smelled like ass, and leaving leftover nuggets in the trash for the janitors......and who hasn't worked at corn dog 6 or caramel corn? This box like dream land must be saved!!!!!!!!!!
7 Ryan Tucker LA US We as a peple need to come together to save one of hammonds historical landmarks and i think this is a very good thing to try to save the hammond square mall
